Celestial Bodies (tryptic)

2022
Watercolor, gouache, and metallic ink

Celestial Bodies is a triptych depicting the relationships between a mother and her three daughters. Shared symbolic language, including celestial bodies, snakes, and soul strings, links the three pieces and solidifies the triptych as a singular, cohesive narrative. These pieces work to celebrate the mother and daughters' genuine and unique bonds as well as the authentic selves of each of the individuals. Richly layered with the symbolism of the Feminine Divine as well as of ancestry and unity, these pieces honor not only the individuals and their relationships but also those that came before them.

Starwatcher

Starwatcher was originally titled "in this I honor you." Initially, the focus of the piece was centered on how to best honor ancestors, parents, and Deity, despite major differences in life paths, through making healthier choices while raising children. However, the work shifted to focus on honoring those who came before through a focus on self-healing and through honoring and validating the unique and precious soul of others. This image captures the calm and quiet comfort that a daughter and mother find in each other's presence. Nothing expected or demanded. Just peace with who they are and where they are in life's journey.

The sun is often out

The sun is often out depicts a mother and daughter standing calmly, confidently, and authentically as they make their way out of the woods. They both hold precious items to them that guide and lead them through their journey. It is at this part in the journey that the mother decides to release the Divine Feminine from being hidden within her bag. She shares this treasured knowledge and guidance with her daughter.

You are the moon

You Are the Moon is unique to this series with its inspired water imagery. You Are the Moon depicts maternal guidance from direct and past ancestors, speaks of change, and issues an invitation to growth both on an individual and generational level. In this piece, the daughter is guided through her uncertainty to look to the ties that bind her to her past and link her to her future. It is here she is taught that, with this link, she is capable of harnessing both creation and creativity as the women in her matriarchal line did before her. With this exercise she becomes aware that she is capable of being the moon.
